China's widely-acclaimed business leader Jack Ma, also chairman of the Chinese Entrepreneur Club (CEC), paid tribute to ancient caravans that paved the routes of the "Silk Road" by trekking across mountains and deserts.
The first batch of businesspeople in Chinese history started their exploration along the Silk Road to West Asia and Europe.
"Entrepreneurs are explorers in the economic field. Traders and businessmen in the past were required to have more courage as they faced great dangers crossing the desert," Ma said. "This is the entrepreneurial spirit, the spirit of adventure."
Ma made his remark at the China Green Companies Summit 2019, held in Dunhuang, Gansu province, on April 24.

The summit aimed to discuss how to win when the economic and social transformation driven by a technological revolution is underway. The summit focused on topics including scientific and technological innovation, business growth, digital transformation, industrial poverty alleviation, investment logic, digitalization, and organizational transformation and reinvention of cultural and tourism industries. The summit also held panel discussions, among which there was one entitled "to claim victory in the cold winter."
This year, more than 1,100 participants, including businesspersons, political figures, scholars, NGO representatives and diplomats, from both home and abroad attended the summit, which was jointly organized by the CEC and local governments in Dunghuang and Jiuquan.
Launched by CEC in 2008, the annual summit is recognized as one of the influential forums by the international business community.
